Bed-ing and Bath-ing

Making a Bed

Why do we need to know how to make an unoccupied and occupied bed?

            *Lightbulb!*
We need to know this things simply because it can help us not only when there is a patient lying on the bed and one minute you need to change into a Super Home Nurse, but also, it can help us in our daily lives. Well, especially when our mothers (you know Mothers :D), tell us to fix our beds. Simple and neat mitering will probably please her. Also, we can apply our thoughts on making an occupied one when we are told to fix the bed of our elders and they are still sleeping or resting, or maybe when it's hard for them to get up. You know them.

How does making a bed help in the fast recovery of our patient?

If you're the patient and your bed is crumpled everywhere and you feel so uncomfortable, plus the sheets aren't in their places anymore, what would you feel?
It is really necessary for a home nurse to do things properly, including the bed of the patient. If you're doing it the right way, it would probably make your patient feel comfortable. Who wouldn't want to sleep on a very neat and tidy bed?

As a good home nurse, how will you be able to render your services to your patient through bed making?

As good home nurse, there is one thing you should remember: Do thing properly - in the right manner and in the right time. Simple as it is, if you have common sense, you'll get it.

Bathing the Patient

Why do you need to give a bath to the patient?

Who in the right thinking wouldn't want to take a bath? Probably, no one.
Even patients need a bath. No exemptions.
You need to give a bath to a patient simply to cleanse him from the day's filth. It will also remove the bacteria that might worsen your patient's condition. Giving your patient a bath will make him feel more comfortable, fresh and relaxed.

What are the materials needed for bed bath or sponge bath?

The materials needed are: 2 big towels, 2 small towels, a rubber sheet, a basin of warm water, soap and a light blanket.

What is the importance of using a urinal or a bed pan?

The urinal or bed pan is important especially when the patient is bedridden for a long time.

What do you mean by back rub?

A back rub is given to refresh the patient.

How do you differentiate cold compress from hot compress?

A cold compress is a absorbent cloth dipped into cold water and is used to reduce inflammation and pain while a hot compress is the application of heat to a small area and is used to relieve pain and congestion.

Home Nursing Techniques

1.  If you are a good home nurse, what are the various home nursing techniques that you need to apply that will make the patient feel comfortable and speed up the recovery?

The patient will feel comfortable and his recovery will speed up if I will apply these various techniques on home nursing:

            a. Observe proper hygiene
            b. Be patient and considerate enough.
            c. Talk to the patient politely and always convince him that this or that will make him better.
            d. Always follow the doctor's prescription.

2.  Why should the home nurse monitor the vital signs of the patient?
It is important to monitor the vital signs of the patient so as the home nurse will be updated of his patient's current status, to be able to administer the right medicine.

3.  How do you take the body temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure of the patient?
              a. To get the body temperature of a person, you use a thermometer. You can place it under the armpits or inside the mouth.

              b. To get the pulse rate, you use your two first fingers and look for the person's pulse on the wrist or on the side part of the neck. Then, we count the beats per minute.

              c. To get the blood pressure of the patient, you should use a sphygmomanometer.

4.  What are some practices that the home nurse must follow that will promote comfort to the patient?
As a home nurse, I should have a long patience. Before administering medicines or doing something, I should first talk with my patient politely, asking for his or her permission. This will provide comfort to the patient since it makes them feel that they are still respected.

5.  How will you differentiate signs from symptoms of illnesses and
         diseases?

A symptom is subjective from the patient point of view. A symptom is what the patient experiences about the illness, injury or disease. Symptoms can only be experienced, they are not able to be observed or measured objectively. Pain is a symptom. Symptoms can be characterized by the patient to help the physician diagnose the problem with that added information to consider along with the observations, measurements, laboratory findings and other diagnostic test results that are the objective signs.

A sign is an objective physical manifestation of illness, injury or disease. It is an objective finding, something one can observe and measure. A rapid pulse, a high temperature, a low blood pressure, an open wound, bruising, etc. are all signs. Signs give a more definite indication of the presence of a particular disease to the physician.

6.  If you are the doctor, what will be your basis in giving the diagnosis for your patient?

If I was the doctor, before giving the diagnosis to my patient, I should always check his or her history or records about his or her  health. Through this, I will be able to know whether he or she has allergies or whether he or she already suffered this kind of illness. In this way, I will know what kind of medicine suits my patient.

Medicine Mind-Invasion

I never thought of actually entering the world of medicines since then. Before, with the innocence of a child, when I see a nurse administering medicines to a patient, all I could think was it's just some kind of food that would make you feel better forever and you will not suffer the same sickness again. Yet, my thoughts were invaded by TLE. It made me think that there's more to it than I'll ever know

.

After one week of discussing about Home Nursing, my point of view on this certain topic changed. It made me realize that administering medicines should be done seriously and not just by making your patient drink this and that like what you probably do with your barbie dolls way back.

To administer medicines, there are things that you should keep in mind, like, to know when and what time you should give the certain medicine, to know the right dosage, right approach, right route, right medicine and of course, you should know the right patient. This knowledge is important since proper administering of medicines can be a great help in your patient's recovery. How? If you are responsible enough to obey the doctor's prescription, like, following the right time and dosage, and  you are responsible enough to never miss a day, then your patient, for sure, will have a fast recovery.

I learned all these things through TLE. Simple as that, medicine mind-invasion was surely a great help.

Worth-dying Products

My hands were suffering the whole time I was making the crochet bracelets. They look so easy to work on, but hey, try changing places with me and you'll experience how hard it is.

But after I saw the products, it was quite relieving. Your hard work was worth it. We made crochet bracelets, crochet bags, headbands and a flower vase. I don't actually know if you can consider it a flower vase (-__-) since you can actually place anything there.

While doing all of those things, I learned a lot. So this is the feeling when you're working hard on something and then your so satisfied with the outcome. Nice.

The Flower Vase???? Uh, let's just settle with that. :))

ALL - IN - ALL PRODUCTS

Well, uh, ah, hmm, let's just say MAYBE they will patronize our products if we'll sell them at approximately 25 pesos.  Hahaha. I am not them so  I can't tell. Ako ba sila? Ako? Ako? ( xd ) But yeah, I think so. Since we made accessories, maybe they will buy those products especially the teenagers.

Working with the Card

It was supposed to be a Christmas card, until I found out it should have been a Thank You card. Argh. Like, duh? A Christmas card during the month of January. (-__-) But hey, at least I made one.

My classmates always consider my card as a wedding invitation. Hey! It's not a Wedding Invitation! How many times have I told them that? I cannot count already.

Well at least, I did my best with it even though the pop-out or pop-up was really fail.
